The Essentials Of The Bible: Part 4 -- Then Men Began To Call Upon The Name Of The LORD – Enoch Our Forerunner In Eternity

Banished from the Garden of Eden; and having the first capital crime committed in their family; the older brother murdering his younger brother; Adam and Eve began to experience the curse of being separated from God.  Cain had children and the earth began to be populated.  Cain’s great, great grandson Lamech also kills a man.  Adam and Eve had another son named Seth.  In the space of five generations, the world lived apart from God.  At the close of chapter four of Genesis; we read in verse 26, “then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.”   For five generation people merely existed, until they began to call upon God.

Genesis 4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Adam and Eve’s attitude of wanting to do things their way; to explore good and evil for themselves; had created a world that was apart from God.  Once people began to call upon the Lord, we see more details about their lives.  Many began to live long lives into the hundreds of years; some as old as nine hundred plus years!

Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

Genesis 5:11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD AND DID NOT SEE DEATH
Chapter 11 of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament records the names of the truly faithful who distinguished themselves in their walk with the Lord.  Between Adam and Noah, their were only two men of genuine faith; Able, who was killed by Cain and Enoch, who did not even see death, as we see in the account of Hebrews, that gives a more detailed account.

Genesis 5:23-24 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:  (24)  And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

TRANSLATE – Comes from a Greek word that means to transport and change.  It is the goal of every Christian to be changed from mortal to immortal and to be transported to the Kingdom of Heaven.  Those alive at the return of Jesus Christ will be changed instantly.

1 Corinthians 15:51-53  (51)  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  (52)  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  (53)  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

The dead will rise first, and then the living Christians will be changed, translated if you will, into the immortal children of God!  Praise the Lord!  This excites me!

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 (13)  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.  (14)  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.  (15)  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  (16)  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  (17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

We have an awesome future in Christ Jesus our LORD.  The Bible should excite you.  It is the living WORD of God; it is Jesus Christ, speaking to you and to me friend!  The best part is that this wonderful WORD can live inside of every one who will repent, be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost!  We are the temple of the Holy Ghost!

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

When we repent and surrender to God accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Savior by being baptized in His Holy name; God gives us the Holy Ghost.  We are ransomed from sin, ransomed from the Devil, who holds this world hostage.  We belong to Jesus Christ!

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I am carnal and my human nature rebels just as Adam and Eve did.  Help me to repent daily and come under the reconciling blood of your sacrifice at Calvary.  Help me to call upon you continually and do all things prayerfully in Christ my LORD, in the authority of the name of Jesus, Amen.
